Tiny Locas Show at Mission Cultural Center

Aquanet, 110 camera, tagged converse hi tops, can of budweiser, black orchid lipstick....

I took photos at the opening reception for the show 'Two Four Mission Home Girls, Circa 1980' put together by Clare Haggarty, Vero Majano and Sandy Cuadra at the Mission Cultural Center - it's up through March 27th....If you are on facebook you can view the photos here.

The show features a great collection of photos by Sandy of her homegirls the Tiny Locas, in the Mission in the late 70's/early 80's, as well as 16mm film and other memorabilia. Definitely worth stopping through if you're in the neighborhood!

24th Street Food and Films this Saturday

Come to a guided tour of the 12 Art in Storefronts projects on 24th Street before sitting down to an evening of food and films about 24th Street by Martha Rosler, Veronica Majano and Kari Orvik, curated by Clare Haggarty (we were all in a band together once - no, not really...)

Saturday, January 30, 6-9pm
Sun Rise Restaurant (3126 24th St.)

The pris-fixe dinner (vegan option) w/ glass of sangria is $20 in advance (if you pay by cash or check...)
RSVP info: http://www.basebasebase.com/projects.html

Film Program:
Martha Rosler, Secrets from the Street: No Disclosure, 1980
In the 80's, Rosler had a studio near 24th Street in the Mission where she filmed the street in super 8 out of a car window. The footage is collaged with her voiceover making observations about the neighborhood.

Veronica Majano, Two Four, 2002
"Two Four" as in 24th Street in San Francisco’s Mission District, explores the fragile decay of memory in this short hand-processed black and white super 8 film.

Kari Orvik, Mission Portrait Studio, 24th and Mission, 2008
This video documents a day of free public portraits through audio interviews, super 8 film and video footage of participants' reactions to their images, neighborhood and one another.

My Corner Store...and Kai

I've started making panoramic portraits of my corner. I'm looking forward to taking more with my field camera, once I get it all working... Here are the brothers who work at the corner store pretty much every night. And then there's Kai.

Larger than life in the window at Jeremy's

If you happen to find yourself on 2nd Street in San Francisco on the corner of South Park near Bryant St., you'll notice some large murals in the window of Jeremy's clothing store. One of those 8 foot panels of different artists features a photo of me sitting on my dining room table with one of my portraits next to me and some text about my work....It is ridiculously large. But anyway, thank you to Cynthia at Jeremy's for making it happen.....
